5 Tips for Getting the Best Bouquets at the Farmers Market

If you’re planning a visit to one of Southeastern Connecticut’s farmers markets this season, here are five simple tips to help you get the most out of your flower-buying experience.

  1. Come Early

The best blooms go fast! Arrive close to opening time for the freshest selection—especially if you're after focal flowers like dahlias. Some varieties are limited each week and tend to sell out quickly. Want to guarantee your bouquet? Sign up for our flower CSA and reserve your flowers ahead of time for pickup at the market.

2. Bring a Jar or Vase

Summer markets can get warm, and flowers don’t love sitting dry in paper sleeves. Bring a clean jar or vase with a few inches of water (ideally one that fits in your car cup holder) to keep your bouquet fresh on the ride home. Bonus: And don’t forget to give those stems a fresh trim once you’re back.

3. Weekly Preview – Know What’s in Season

At Bloom Harvest Flower Farm we grow a curated mix of specialty blooms from May through October. If you're not sure what to expect, check our Instagram each week for a preview of what we’re bringing to market.

4. Follow Us on Social

We post updates, what’s blooming, and behind-the-scenes moments from the farm. Instagram is where we’re most active—Facebook, occasionally. It’s the best way to see what’s coming to the booth.

5. Say Hello

We love seeing familiar faces and meeting new ones. Whether you're picking up your CSA bouquet or just browsing, stop by the booth to say hi, ask questions, or get tips on arranging flowers at home. We’re always happy to chat.
