The Magical Pumpkin Fairy House

I've been making pumpkin fairy houses since my kids were little. Now I make them for me, to fuel my inner creative, my inner child, or whatever you want to call it…

Make it stand out

Our first pumpkin fairy house, 2013

For this one, I removed the top, gutted the pumpkin, and carved the windows and door. I hot-glued fresh strawflowers and ferns around the doorway, added sticks to the windows, and used a pattypan squash as the roof. I even made a little broomstick for my needle-felted rat. Or bat? I'm still not sure.

The lily-pad-looking nasturtium leaves became steps along the pathway. Everything came from things I already had around the house and garden.

The house lived in the garden until it eventually decayed.

You should make one, too. Just for you!

That’s all for today!

Best,
Rachel
