How to Start a Compost Pile

Way back in 2008-ish, I picked up my first gardening books, Monty Don’s The Complete Gardener and Backyard Homestead, and before I knew it, we had a flock of chickens, ducks, and a new (and failing) gardener.

One of the first things I learned to do was compost. And I will say, in those early years, I was MUCH better at making compost than I was at growing vegetables. Haha.

Over the years, I got better at both. At some point, I took a deep dive into soil health, soil science, and compost. I learned that compost is much more than just something you add to your garden, and that more isn’t always better when it comes to using it.

So, I created this free compost guide to give you the information I wish I had when I got started.
