How to Use Buckets of Blooms for a Beautiful DYI Wedding on a Budget

Gorgeous wedding flowers don’t have to cost a fortune.

If you’re planning a wedding in Southeastern CT and love the idea of lush, seasonal blooms without the price tag of full-service florals, DIY flower buckets might be the perfect fit. At Bloom Harvest Flower Farm, we grow specialty flowers that shift with the seasons, offering brides and grooms a flexible and affordable option for their wedding day.

DIY flower buckets are perfect for creating centerpieces, ceremony accents, bridesmaid bouquets, or even bud vases for cocktail tables. You’ll get a farmer’s choice mix of focal flowers, accent flowers, and greenery—so you have everything you need to start arranging.

Here are a few tips to make your DIY wedding flowers a success:

  • Order ahead
Don’t wait until the last minute—our DIY buckets book out quickly during wedding season. Reach out as early as possible so we can plan your flowers based on what’s blooming at the time of your event.

  • Prep your car
It sounds simple, but it’s so important: arrive with a clean, empty car and cool. Flowers can get bruised or crushed easily in transit, so make sure you have enough space and nothing rolling around.

  • Pick up one to two days before
Schedule your flower pickup for one to two days before your wedding. Keep the flowers in a cool, shaded space out of direct sunlight until you’re ready to arrange.

  • Practice ahead of time
Arranging flowers is harder than it looks! We highly recommend doing a practice run—either with a DIY bucket a month ahead or with grocery store flowers—so you get a feel for shape, texture, and balance.

  • Make it a gathering
Set aside time the day before your wedding to make arrangements with a few trusted friends or family members. Put on some music, pour a drink, and make it part of the celebration. It takes longer than it looks so make sure to give yourself enough time.

  • Stick to simple vessels
Mason jars, compotes, or basic glass vases work beautifully. Just be sure your containers are clean and watertight. The smaller the mouth on the jar the less flowers you have to use to make it look full.

  • Keep arrangements cool and hydrated
Once arranged, store flowers in a cool space away from sun and heat. If possible, keep in water until right before placing them out at your venue.
